A face cleanser is the foundation of any solid skincare routine! They are designed to clean and remove impurities from the skin, helping to remove dirt, oil, make-up and other pollutants that can accumulate on your skin throughout the day.
How to use a face cleanser can vary slightly depending on the product itself and the formulation, however generally the advice is pretty consistent! Gently massage a small raspberry-sized amount of your chosen cleanser onto a dampened face and neck for at least 60 seconds. Add a splash of warm water to emulsify and continue to work into skin then rinse thoroughly using a soft wash cloth/flannel or simply just water!
"Face wash" and "face cleanser" are often used interchangably. You may find that a face wash is typically a foaming or gel-based product whereas a face cleanser is a broader term encompassing a variety of products including foaming cleansers, gel cleansers or cream cleansers. In essence, they generally mean the same thing!
When using a cleanser it is best to massage it into the skin for around 60 seconds, this ensures a thorough cleanse to remove all dirt and impurities. If you are cleansing in the AM, a single cleanse is absolutely fine. When cleansing in the PM, we would suggest to repeat this process twice (a double cleanse) to help further remove any residue of SPF or make-up left behind on the skin after your first cleanse. With this the general advice for most cleansers, some medicated cleansers may recommend to leave the product in contact with the skin for a little longer than 60 seconds. In these cases it is best to follow the instructions provided on the packaging or by your prescribing physician.
