Glycolic Acid Toner | The INKEY List

• Only use in your PM skincare routine
• After cleansing and hydrating with your chosen hydrator, saturate a cotton pad with Glycolic Acid Toner and sweep across the face and neck. It does not need to be rinsed off.
• Follow with your preferred treatments and moisturiser. 
• Apply SPF as the last step in your AM skincare routine.

  • You can also use on other blemish-prone areas, including your back and chest.
  • If you have more sensitive skin, we would recommend PHA Toner as a gentler exfoliant alternative
  • As this product is exfoliating, avoid using at the same time as AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Lactic Acid, Mandelic Acid or Apple Cider Vinegar), BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acid or C-50 Blemish Treatment), Niacinamide Serum or PHA Toner. Avoid mixing with Vitamin C products at the same time (Use Vitamin C in the AM and Glycolic Acid in the PM).

We advise that prior to exposure to sun you use a broad spectrum SPF, immediately and up to 7 days after.

To keep your product working at its best, we recommend storing in a dry, cool place (ideally between 59-77 °F) and keep out of direct sunlight. Avoid direct contact with eyes. External use only. Keep out of reach of children.

IS IT OKAY TO USE GLYCOLIC ACID EVERY DAY? Glycolic Acid Toner is a potent exfoliating treatment and we advise against everyday exfoliation as this can cause irritation and skin sensitivity. Exfoliating 1-3 times per week in your PM routine is ideal and you skin will still enjoy the benefits if you use this product consistently. Do you need to use a toner? >

SHOULDN’T I APPLY GLYCOLIC ACID TONER RIGHT AFTER CLEANSING? If you want to use Glycolic Acid Toner and Hyaluronic Acid in the same routine, We suggest using your Hyaluronic Acid first. This can help your following products including toners work better acting as transport for them into the skin! Apply your Hyaluronic Acid and wait 30/60 seconds before gently patting your toner into your skin. This can absolutely be personal preference and you can use them the other way around if you prefer! 

IS GLYCOLIC ACID AN AHA? Yes it is. AHAs, encourage cell turnover to reveal a brighter, more even complexion. Use in the PM and protect your skin with SPF during the day.

HOW TO USE WITH OTHER PRODUCTS: It is not recommended to use both Glycolic Acid and Retinol at the same time, use on different nights if required. Don't mix with other AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Lactic Acid, Mandelic Acid or Apple Cider Vinegar), BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acid or C-50 Blemish Treatment) or PHA Toner as this can cause irritation and sensitise the skin. I HAVE A SENSITIVE SKIN, CAN I STILL USE GLYCOLIC ACID TONER? We do not recommend Glycolic Acid Toner for more sensitive skin types due to its strong potency. Our PHA Toner as a gentler alternative.

CAN YOU BUILD UP SKIN’S TOLERANCE TO STRONGER EXFOLIANTS? You can build up your skin’s tolerance to exfoliating acids. Start with mild and gentle products such as PHA toner / AHA / Lactic Acid / Mandelic Acid. After few weeks of regular usage, you can move on to either a higher % concentration of the same ingredient or move on to a completely new exfoliant that matches your skin’s concerns like Beta Hydroxy Acid or low percentage Glycolic Acid. Make sure to patch test and monitor your skin.  

WHY DO I NEED TO WEAR SUNSCREEN WHEN USING AHA'S? Due to the exfoliating properties of AHAs such as Glycolic Acid Toner, and the fact it increases skin renewal, means the top layer of skin is newer and potentially more sensitive to sunlight. So we always recommend using Glycolic Acid Toner the PM and wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen during the day.

HOW POTENT IS GLYCOIC ACID TONER? Our Glycolic Acid Toner contains 10% Glycolic Acid helps to keep skin looking healthy at a safe concentration and 5% Witch Hazel helps to minimise excess oil making it the strongest exfoliating in our range. We only recommend it for advanced acid users without sensitive skin.

WHAT'S THE % OF GLYCOLIC ACID? There's 10% of glycolic acid in the formula.

WHAT'S THE % OF WITCH HAZEL? Glycolic Acid toner contain 5% witch hazel.

WHY DOES IT CONTAIN ALCOHOL? The Alcohol (Ethanol) does serve as a solvent to aid in enhancing the functionality of the witch hazel, which is distilled in 14% alcohol.

WHAT IS THE PH LEVEL OF THIS PRODUCT? PH LEVEL: 3.6-4.0.

AHAS VS BHAS - WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) are chemical exfoliators. Water-soluble, they work on the surface of your skin, encouraging cell turnover to reveal a brighter, more even complexion. Use in the PM and protect your skin with SPF during the day. Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) are also chemical exfoliators. They are oil soluble, which means they work deeper in your pores, helping to target blackheads and reduce the bacteria that can lead to breakouts. Use AM or PM and protect your skin with SPF during the day.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS? Products can take up to six weeks to show full results, due to the time it takes for your skin cells to turnover and the results of any products to reach the surface. Consistency is key, so apply regularly even if you’re not seeing the effects straight away. It can be very tempting to increase use of some products to try and see quicker results, don't overdo it though. More is not necessarily more, and overuse can cause irritation and sensitivity.
